In a pairing you wouldn’t expect, James Corden is playing the meerkat Timon and Tom Cruise is playing the warthog Pumba on stage in a musical performance of “The Lion King” at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood.
“Top Gun: Maverick” actor Cruise filmed the segment with Corden which will air as part of the primetime special “The Last Last Late Late Show” on April 27th. The final episode of the late-night talk show will air later that night.
The show shared a sneak peek of the event on social media with Cruise and Corden in costume and the caption: “Here’s to finding the Pumbaa to your Timon, and to one last sketch with @tomcruise before we turn out the lights on the #LateLateShow.”
Previously the pair did segments for the late night show which saw Corden and Cruise piloting fighter jets and skydiving which notably terrified Corden.
Cruise wrapped filming on “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning: Part Two” in December ahead of doing promotional rounds for the first part’s release this Summer. More recently he’s been on the awards campaign trail for “Top Gun: Maverick”.
The primetime “Late Late Show” special will premiere on April 27th at 10pm on CBS and Paramount+ before the final final episode of “The Late Late Show” with James Corden airs after at 12:37am. Corden took over as host in 2015.
