One of the bigger viral TikTok trends in the past month has videos filmed by women asking men in their lives how often they think about the Roman Empire.
The trend sees partners, dads, and brothers all being asked the question, with plenty admitting that they think about the Roman Empire often – often to the confusion of the person filming.
Well now master filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola has gotten in on the trend and gave an answer on Instagram in a way that helps promote his upcoming self-financed film “Megalopolis”.
Story details about that film are vague, but the synopsis reads: “The fate of Rome haunts a modern world unable to solve its own social problems in this epic story of political ambition, genius and conflicted love.”
The celebrated “Apocalypse Now” auteur thus had fun with his posting, both offering a history lesson and potentially teasing some of the themes we’ll get to see tackled in the new film:
“How often do I think of Ancient Rome? Quite a lot. The Roman Republic served as the example for my country America and its institutions, and was the inspiration for my upcoming film Megalopolis.
My fascination with the Roman Republic is based on the struggle between the political parties during which the interest of the Republic yielded to the ambitions of a few powerful men who espoused the aims of political parties to establish their own fortunes and authority by relying upon armed forces to achieve those ends, dealing the final blow to a constitution already tottering to its fall.”
Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Forest Whitaker, Dustin Hoffman, and Jon Voight star in the film which does not have a release date at this time.
