Actor Sharlto Copley, recently speaking with Fandango to promote “Beast,” offered a brief but optimistic update on the status of the long-gestating sequel to Neill Blomkamp’s celebrated sci-fi film “District 9”.
The actor starred in the 2009 original and suggests that once Blomkamp wraps filming on “Gran Turismo,” then this project may finally get made:
“We came super close, and then he’s gone off to something else, but we were right there…So, let’s see in a year and a half after when he gets done on the movie he’s doing now.”
Made on a budget of $30 million, the original film ended up grossing $210.8 million worldwide along with making many top-of-the-year lists. Blomkamp and Terri Tatchell are co-writing the script for the sequel.
