Coogan, Brydon Re-Team For Fifth “The Trip”

Comedians Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon are re-teaming for a fifth season of the beloved travelogue comedy franchise “The Trip”.

Sky has announced that the pair, and director Michael Winterbottom, will reunite for a six-part new run titled “The Trip to the Northern Lights”. All three executive produce alongside Melissa Parmenter.

In it, the pair travel through Scandinavia in search of fine food, wry conversation, and a glimpse of the elusive Northern Lights. Filming beigns later this year on location in Scandinavia.

Coogan said in a statement: “I’m delighted that Michael Winterbottom has managed to persuade me at the age of 59 to join Rob, aged 60, to squeeze the last few drops of comedy from a bottle that we both thought was pretty much empty.”

The franchise first began with 2010’s “The Trip” in which the pair play fictionalised versions of themselves on a restaurant tour of northern England. That was followed by 2014’s “The Trip to Italy,” 2017’s “The Trip to Spain” and 2020’s “The Trip to Greece”.

Each season is released as both six half-hour episodes and in an edited-down two-hour feature film version, which is released in cinemas. The same is expected again here.
