AMC has handed out an eight-episode series order for the musical anthology dramedy “National Anthem” which hails from “Contagion” writer Scott Z. Burns and “Breaking Bad” executive producer Mark Johnson.
Both will executive produce the series which tells the story of a middle-class Midwestern family tumbling down the ladder of American society, periodically bursting into song as they struggle to catch themselves.
The aim is to show a “family drama with deep resonant things to say about the fragility of our country” according to the network. Regular Coen Brothers collaborator T Bone Burnett is attached as the series’ music producer with words and music by The Hold Steady singer Craig Finn.
