A limited TV series adaptation of John le Carre’s “The Constant Gardener,” one set in a post-pandemic contemporary context, is in development at The Ink Factory.
The original novel follows Justin Quayle, a British diplomat and avid horticulturist who meets an Amnesty International activist in London called Tessa.
After striking up a romance, they head on a journey that weaves together a murder, government corruption and corporate malfeasance as the action unfold across Kenya and Europe.
Lydia Adetunji (“His Dark Materials,” “Noughts + Crosses”) pens the work, which doesn’t have a network or cast attached as of yet.
The property was previously adapted to the screen in 2005 by celebrated “City of God” filmmaker Fernando Meirelles. Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz had the lead roles in the film which was one of the year’s most acclaimed features and Weisz won an Oscar for her supporting turn in the film.
The news comes as The Ink Factory is also turning le Carre’s “A Most Wanted Man” into a TV series and is producing a second season of the acclaimed le Carre mini-series adaptation “The Night Manager”.
