“Community” Movie Sets Glover, Filming Plans

NBC

Nearly a year ago came word that the beloved comedy series “Community” was getting a movie for the Peacock service – fulfilling the show’s dream of “six seasons and a movie”.

“Rick and Morty” co-creator Dan Harmon was behind the show which premiered on NBC in 2009 and follows a community college study group.

Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, Ken Jeong, Chevy Chase, and Jim Rash starred in the series, with McHale offering occasional updates as to its progress.

At last report a few months ago, it was revealed production on the project was likely to be delayed due to the ongoing WGA writer’s strike.

This week whilst appearing on the Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast, the “Community” star offered a positive update, indicating they’ve settled on a filming window and have secured the return of one of the originals who at last report wasn’t yet locked:

“We’re shooting it next summer. [Donald Glover’s] coming back, and that’s really important. Well, the fact that we even got Donald to do it… that was the big piece. But, I think everyone’s coming back. So far, we’re pretty good, and I think that will happen. If not, then, you know, Donald will be there. See? It’ll just be Donald. It’ll just be an episode of Atlanta.”

The push of the shoot to next Summer gets it well out of the way of the strike which is still ongoing though hopefully will be settled in the next few months.

McHale adding “everyone’s coming back” raises the obvious question if the last unconfirmed returnee, Yvette Nicole Brown who plays Shirley, is set.
