Colter On Luke Cage Return, “Ship” Scrapping

Netflix

While Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones is a part of the second season of “Daredevil: Born Again,” it’s still not entirely clear if we’ll see cameos from Luke Cage (Mike Colter) or Danny Rand (Finn Jones) in the new run.

Both actors were in New York during some of the filming on the second season of the series, which led to speculation that both would pop up in the new run.

Speaking with The Direct at Fan Expo Vancouver, he was asked about previous comments he made which indicated that he’d had conversations with Marvel about returning.

He tells the outlet those talks are still going, but he seems keen to return:

“Look, I mean, here’s the thing: I have been talking to Marvel, and Jessica [Jones]’ back, and there’s a lot of story left to tell, and I just think that it’d be a shame for me not to pop back up.”

Colter also spoke abotu the sequel to “Plane,” the 2023 action thriller in which he co-starred with Gerard Butler. That film saw a pilot forced to defend his passengers from hostile enemies after landing in dangerous territory.

That film grossed $74 million worldwide on a $25 million budget, and a sequel was greenlit. Titled “Ship”, Colter was to reprise his role of Louis Gaspare in the film which he would’ve led while Butler would’ve produced and cameoed in (but not starred).

Then, just two weeks ahead of filming, Butler reportedly pulled out of the film and it fell apart. Colter tells the outlet:

“It just, last-minute, Gerard [Butler] decided he didn’t want to go forward with it, and there wasn’t a lot of discussion about it. [Butler] just . . . two weeks out, he pulled out and we were sort of left trying to figure out what to do. And eventually, that dissolved. The script [was] basically picking up where we left off, what happened to that character, and how’d he get off the island. That was where we were gonna go with it. So, I was excited about it.”

Why Butler pulled out of the project isn’t clear. Colter is currently re-teaming with his “Evil” showrunners Robert and Michelle King on the new TV series “Cupertino”.
