Cole Escola Joins “One Piece” Season 3

NBC, Toei

Tony winner Cole Escola (“Oh, Mary!,” “Nurse Jackie,” “Search Party”) has scored a series regular role in the third season of Netflix’s live-action “One Piece” series adaptation.

Escola will play the fan-favourite character of Bon Clay, also known as Bentham and as Mr. 2 Bon Kurei. The character is a master of performance and precision – an overly theatrical assassin known for their flamboyant ballet and swan-inspired look, and who can turn combat into art.

The character starts off as a villain before befriending Luffy & the gang. Escola marks the first major new casting for the third season, which will shortly begin shooting in Cape Town, South Africa.

The series was renewed for a third season in August, allowing it to get moving on production quicker – it’s expected the two and a half year gap between the first and second season will likely be shrunk to about half that time for the second/third season gap.

Series regulars like Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji are all expected back – as are several second-season characters who play a key part in the third season, which adapts the Arabasta arc.

The second season, titled “One Piece: Into the Grand Line,” is set to arrive March 10th. Check out a new featurette below:
