Multiple reports on Twitter and select geek sites are citing the rumor that actor Sacha Baron Cohen will portray the iconic villain Mephisto in the upcoming Marvel Studios series “Ironheart” on the Disney+ service.

The rumor first seemed to emerge on the Marvel Studios Spoiler Reddit thread with both Lizzie Hill and My Time to Shine picking it up followed by various outlets including the reliable The DisInsider.

Anthony Ramos plays the show’s main villain of The Hood, a character who in the comics receives magical powers from the cosmic entity Dormammu who appeared in 2016’s “Doctor Strange” film. These reports suggest that is being changed for “Ironheart” with The Hood now getting his powers from Mephisto after coming to a deal with him.

Mephisto is an immortal demonic entity in the comics whose magical abilities include shapeshifting, illusion projection, temporal alteration and more. The character has been rumored to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years, with some touting “WandaVision” as his debut – that didn’t prove to be the case.

Chinaka Hodge (“Snowpiercer”) is showrunner on the series, with Sam Bailey, Angela Barnes and Ryan Coogler executive producing. The title character makes her debut in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” next month.
