Universal has set a February 24th 2023 release date for the Elizabeth Banks-directed thriller “Cocaine Bear”.
The project is inspired by the 1985 true story of a drug runner’s plane crash and the bear who ate his cargo before dying of the largest overdose in history.
The film’s story follows an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens converging in a Georgia forest where a 500-pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of the narcotic and goes on a coke-fueled rampage seeking more blow – and blood.
An all-star cast in the film includes Keri Russell, Margo Martindale, Ray Liotta, Alden Ehrenreich, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Kristofer Hivju, Kahyun Kim, Christian Convery, Brooklynn Prince and newcomer Scott Seiss.
Banks directs from a screenplay by Jimmy Warden based on reporting by The New York Times. Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Brian Duffield and Aditya Sood are producing.
