“Clue” Gets A 40th Anniversary Re-Release

Paramount Pictures

Cult comedy classic “Clue” is returning to cinemas next week for its 40th anniversary, and with it will come an interesting rollout strategy.

Based on “Clue” (or “Cluedo”), the 1985 murder mystery feature is these days considered a stone cold classic of the comedy genre with a murderer’s row of legends – Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull, Lesley Ann Warren and Eileen Brennan.

The re-release comes ahead of a new 4K UHD Steelbook disc release for the film on October 7th. To promote it, Paramount will be reissuing the film in cinemas from August 26th to 28th.

One key selling point is that each night, the film will boast a different ‘ending’. The original theatrical release in 1985 randomised which of the three endings made each cinema audience saw.

All subsequent home release versions on VHS, DVD, Blu-ray and 4K include all three endings sequentially, and it’s presumed this re-release will boast the nightly endings in that order.

Tickets for the event are on sale now, with Cinemark releasing a poster very much in line with the original 1985 theatrical release one-sheet.
