It was expected Disney Pictures was going to release a Super Bowl spot for its live-action adaptation of its 1989 animated classic “The Little Mermaid”.
That didn’t happen, but today they have dropped a new 30-second trailer which, like the original teaser trailer, plays from the song “Part of Your World”. This time it shows off a glimpse of Halle Bailey as Ariel and co-star Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric along with the briefest tease of Melissa McCarthy as the story’s villain Ursula.
Rob Marshall helms the film about Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric.
While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
The cast also includes Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as the voice of Flounder, Awkwafina as the voice of Scuttle, Art Malik Sir Grimsby, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina and Javier Bardem as King Triton.
The live-action “The Little Mermaid” is scheduled top score a wide release in cinemas on May 26th.
