Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has shared the opening sequence from the DC adult animated movie “Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires” which has now become available to rent or own on digital platforms.
In the clip, we meet rebellious young Yohualli Coatl (Horacio Garcia Rojas) who mistakes a vision about the demise of his village for a nightmare. Soon, the Spanish conquistadors arrive in search of gold.
The project marks the first ever collaboration between Warner Bros. Animation, Particular Crowd (“Spree”), Anima (“Legend Quest”) and Chatrone (“The Book of Life”).
The story follows Yohualli, whose father and village leader Toltecatzin is murdered by the Conquistadors. Coatl flees to Tenochtitlan to warn King Moctezuma and his high priest, Yoka, of looming danger.
Using the temple of the bat god Tzinacan as a lair, Yohualli trains with his mentor and assistant Acatzin. He develops equipment and weaponry to confront the Spaniard invasion, protect Moctezuma’s temple, and avenge his father’s death.
Produced entirely in Mexico, the project has Mesoamerican studies expert Alejandro Diaz Barriga working closely with the creative team to make certain that the indigenous representation portrayed in the film is appropriate and relevant.
The Spanish audio version of the film features Horacio García Rojas, Omar Chaparro, and Álvaro Morte. The English voice cast includes Jay Hernandez and Raymond Cruz.
Juan Meza-Leon (“Harley Quinn”) directs the feature, while Jose C. García de Letona, Fernando De Fuentes, Aaron D. Berger and Carina Schulze produce. “Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires” hit digital today and comes to disc next week.
