“The Crown” and “First Man” star Claire Foy will play Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg in the new scripted series “Doomsday Machine” at Anonymous Content (“Mr. Robot”) and wiip (“Mare of Easttown”).
The show is an adaptation of Sheera Frenkel and Cecilia Kang’s bestselling book “An Ugly Truth: Inside Facebook’s Battle for Domination” and explores relationship between Mark Zuckerberg and Sandberg and the obstacles Facebook has faced on its relentless quest for growth.
Several journalists will serve as consultants to ensure the plot’s accuracy as the series begins with events in 2016 with the rise of disinformation ahead of the U.S. federal election to the XCHECK revelations, to the mental health risks on teenagers posed by Instagram.
Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Ayad Akhtar created the series while Frenkel and Kang executive produce and consult on the project.
