“Homeland” star Claire Danes has signed up for the lead role in the series “The Essex Serpent” at the Apple TV+ service.
The series is based on the book by Sarah Perry and follows newly widowed Cora (Danes) who, having being released from an abusive marriage, relocates from Victorian London to the small village of Aldwinter in Essex.
Cora is intrigued by a local superstition that a mythical creature known as the Essex Serpent has returned to the area. Danes replaces Keira Knightley who exited back in October.
Clio Bernard directs the series with Anna Symon serving as head writer. Both will also executive produce along with Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Patrick Walters, Iain Canning, and Emile Sherman.
