CinemaCon 2026 News & Trailer Speculation

Next week sees CinemaCon (formerly ShoWest), the convention for exhibitors where the film studios show off their upcoming wares to theatre owners and some members of the press.

It comes at a time when there are a lot of questions about the fate of the industry as a whole over the next few years, but also one of the strongest summer line-ups of the post-pandemic era, with a major release essentially every weekend from late April through the end of July.

While most of the footage screened at the event is for those in attendance in the room, the studios do occasionally push out a trailer after screening it for exhibitors.

Last year, the first trailers for “TRON: Ares” and “M3GAN 2.0,” and a new trailer for “Karate Kid: Legends” all had their debut online within a day of their presentation. The prior year, “Joker: Folie a Deux” released its trailer during its CinemaCon presentation.

So what could come this year? Trailer tracker Buy Physical Media and other sources indicate the first trailer for “Weapons” director Zach Cregger’s new “Resident Film” will go online next week – likely right after Sony’s presentation. So far, that’s the only trailer (and certainly the biggest one) rumored to go online.

Sony is up first at the event on Monday with a 135-minute presentation that will likely show off some “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” footage for the room only as well as offer a “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” update. “Insidious: The Bleeding World” and next “Jumanji” are also likely to get teased there.

Warner Bros is on Tuesday with clips likely from “Supergirl,” “Mortal Kombat II” and “Dune: Part Three” as well as potential first looks at “Clayface,” “Practical Magic 2,” “Evil Dead Burn,” “The Great Beyond” and “Godzilla x Kong: Supernova”. Something from “Digger” is also likely.

That’ll be followed by Wednesday by Universal with “Disclosure Day,” “The Odyssey” and “Minions & Monsters” as well as possible “Focker-in-Law” and “Werwulf” first looks. Amazon MGM Studios could show off first looks at “I Play Rocky,” “Madden” and “The Thomas Crown Affair” remake that day too as well as a big push for “Masters of the Universe”.

Paramount and Disney are on Thursday with “Scary Movie 6,” “Jackass 5,” “Street Fighter,” “Passenger,” “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” “Moana,” “The Dog Stars” “Whalefall,” and “Avengers: Doomsday” likely to get something. Again, all that stuff will be for the convention goers only and won’t be online – though descriptions and news from the event will be making headlines.

THR notes that “Avengers: Doomsday” has been “exploding on long-lead tracking” and Disney could well capitalise on this by doing something big at the event, such as outline what’s next for the MCU.

Scattered between all this are smaller distributors like GKIDS, NEON, Black Bear and Angel, with one of the big titles to show footage being “Godzilla Minus Zero”. We’ll find out what will go online starting on Monday night.
