CinemaCon, the annual gathering of exhibitors and Hollywood studios in Las Vegas, has been cancelled over concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.
The annual event, hosted by the National Association of Theatre Owners, was set to run March 30th-April 2nd at Caesar’s Palace.
NATO president John Fithian said in a statement that a significant portion of the worldwide motion picture community is not able to attend CinemaCon this year due to travel bans and difficulties. In addition, several studios expressed concern about being forced to host pared-back presentations.
The news follows on from Tuesday’s that the National Association of Broadcasters’ annual NAB Trade show, which takes place the following week in Vegas, has also been cancelled along with the GLAAD Media Awards and the annual PaleyFest. On Wednesday afternoon the NBA suspended its current season of play.
