Cinedigm has acquired the assets of niche arthouse film-targeted SVOD service Fandor and its catalogue of 4,600 films.
Cinedigm says it plans to relaunch the service, update the app, and beef up its offerings with some of their own catalogue of 7,000+ film titles.
Cinedigm will continue to offer the service to subscribers without ads and plans to offer a free, ad-supported on-demand tier and a linear streaming channel. Keyframe, Fandor’s online publication dedicated to the art of cinema, will also be relaunched.
The company believes it could top a million subscribers within the next 2-3 years. Unlike the previous U.S. only incarnation, the relaunch will focus on rapid global expansion and distribution.
Cinedigm also recently picked up content distributor The Film Detective which focused on classic film and TV programming. The plan is to get going quickly with the service aiming to be back up in the coming quarter.
