“Cinderella” Coming In 4K Next Month

Disney

Disney is set to put a recent 4k restoration of its iconic animated classic “Cinderella” on the Disney+ service on August 25th, just weeks after its release on 4K UHD disc.

The new restoration corrects the problems with the prior 2005 restoration for the Blu-ray, which significantly altered the colors and scrubbed details from the animation along with delivering a complete lack of natural grain.

Kevin Schaeffer, Director of Restoration for Walt Disney Studios, says the process here goes back to the source – pulling the original nitrate negative from the Library of Congress and scanning the successive exposure color records in 4K.

They then did a cleaning pass to remove as much dirt and artifacts as possible with the help of more advanced restoration tools to produce a higher quality image than previous efforts.

In addition, Disney Animation legends and authorities Michael Giaimo and Eric Goldberg were brought in to ensure they didn’t lose any of the detail or artistic choices of the filmmakers.

The restoration premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year. 4K discs will be available to all on August 1st with the film hitting Disney+ on August 25th.
