Chris Hemsworth is currently reprising his role as Thor in “Avengers: Doomsday” which is in production in the UK.
Hemsworth shot the first “Thor” back in 2010, and to mark the 15th anniversary the actor has shared a video titled “Thank You! The Legacy of Thor” along with a posting thanking fans.
Speculation has quickly arisen that he might be done with the role as the post, and video, all seems to be done with the tone of a ‘farewell’. His statement reads as follows:
“Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life. For the last 15 years I’ve held Mjolnir and then Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what made it truly special… was sharing it with all of you. Your passion, your cheers, and your love for this character have meant everything to me. Thank you for making my journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe unforgettable… Next up, Doomsday!”
The Australian actor rose to fame on soapie “Home and Away” before first coming to notice for a small role in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek”film and a supporting role in David Twohy’s “A Perfect Getaway”. He first played Thor for Kenneth Branagh’s “Thor” film back when he was 27.
Now he’s 42 and the actor has previously suggested that it might be time to kill off the character, but no definitive plan has been announced as yet. Marvel is Marvel though and even if Thor is killed off, it doesn’t necessarily mean the end for the actor’s involvement in the MCU.
“Avengers: Doomsday” will arrive in cinemas on December 18th 2026 followed by “Avengers: Secret Wars” on December 17th 2027.
