Chris Cooper is set to join Tom Hanks and Matthew Rhys in the Mr. Rogers feature “You Are My Friend” at TriStar Pictures.
The story deals with the real-life friendship between Fred Rogers (Tom Hanks) and award-winning journalist Tom Junod (Matthew Rhys). The cynical Junod begrudgingly accepts an assignment to write a profile piece on the beloved icon and finds his perspective on life transformed.
Marielle Heller (“Diary of a Teenage Girl”) is helming the movie from a script by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster. Cooper would play Rhys’ father in the film which begins shooting in September and is targeting an October 18th 2019 release.
