A few days ago, word came from actor Zach Galligan, star of Joe Dante’s classic “Gremlins,” that Warner Bros. Pictures was essentially wanting to move forward on a third “Gremlins” film with a script currently awaiting producer Steven Spielberg’s approval.
TheInSneider has followed that up with a new report indicating the script was penned by none other than original “Gremlins” writer Chris Columbus.
Columbus, who went on to become a famed filmmaker in his own right with “Home Alone” and “Mrs. Doubtfire” among many others, is also attached to direct the new installment says the new report.
A further report at World of Reel confirms there’s serious weight to the report, and the title is expected to be a part of an upcoming announcement of a slate of new projects as parent company Warner Bros. Discovery will soon divide into two separate companies – Warner Bros. and Discovery Global.
Warner Bros. is doubling down on legacy sequels following the success of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” with a “Practical Magic” sequel currently in production as well.
It’s expected that the film will use practical puppetry, similar to the originals, as opposed to CG. When it might begin filming isn’t clear.
