One of the most impressively directed genre movies of the year came in the form of Chloe Okuno’s psychological thriller “Watcher” starring Maika Monroe.
Now, Above the Line is reporting that Okuno has found a follow-up and has closed a deal to direct the fourth entry in the “Fear Street” franchise for the streamer.
Netflix premiered the entire original trilogy in July last year, spreading the R-rated releases a week apart between each entry and turning the whole endeavour into a hit for them, along with scoring solid reviews from critics and audiences.
The films are based on the popular book series from “Goosebumps” author R.L. Stine with Leigh Janiak directing and co-writing the first three films which were spread across three time periods – 1994, 1978 and 1666.
Kiana Madeira, Sadie Sink, Fred Hechinger, and Maya Hawke starred in the previous films, but no word on casting or story details for the new one at present.
Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and David Ready are reportedly back as producers, but Janiak’s involvement is unclear. Janiak has previously expressed an interest in further adaptations of the Stine books.
