CES 2021 Scraps Vegas Show, Goes Online

The Consumer Electronic Show, or CES as it’s widely known where all the big electronic gadgets of the year from new TV models to smart fridges are shown off, will not be held in Las Vegas in January as per usual.

The convention had been scheduled to run January 6th-9th next year, and has become the latest event canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic which has resurged in the United States in the past two months. It’s also one of the first 2021 events to do so.

Today the Consumer Technology Association announced next year’s presentation will be an “all-digital experience” on the same dates as opposed to holding a scaled-down version of the convention. CTA says it plans to return to Las Vegas for CES 2022 which will “combine the best elements of a physical and digital show.”

CTA president/CEO Gary Shapiro said in a statement: “Amid the pandemic and growing global health concerns about the spread of COVID-19, it’s just not possible to safely convene tens of thousands of people in Las Vegas in early January 2021 to meet and do business in person.”

Programming details for the virtual CES 2021 will be announced at a later date.
