Kevin Hart and John Cena will both star in and produce the action comedy “The Leading Man” which has been sold to Netflix.
In the film, a self-absorbed movie star (Cena) discovers that his co-star/man in the chair (Hart) is an actual agent. He’s forced to swallow his pride and accept that action stars aren’t really action heroes…while trying to save the world.
The project has been penned by Jon and Erich Hoeber (“The Meg,” “Red,” “My Spy”) who penned the Will Smith-led “Fast & Loose” which lost director Michael Bay this week and is currently seeking a new helmer.
This one is based on the comic book series from Jeremy Haun and B. Clay Moore and is in the early development stage.
Luke Kelly-Clyne, Bryan Smiley, Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum, Eric Gitter, Peter Schwerin, and Dan Baime will produce alongside the two stars.
Cena is coming off Amazon Prime’s action comedy “Heads of State,” which has brought in over 75 million worldwide viewers since it launched just over a month ago.
