Actor Mark Harmon and CBS have struck a deal to keep their long-running procedural “NCIS” alive.
CBS has decided to renew the series for a 19th season and has also locked down Harmon to stay aboard. The actor had hinted he was ready to move on but was told CBS would likely end “NCIS” if he retired – that prompted Harmon to enter negotiations to return.
It’s uncertain how many episodes season 19 will consist of, whether this will be the show’s final season, and whether Harmon will only appear in a limited number of episodes.
The series remains a ratings powerhouse, regularly drawing more than 12 million viewers per episode. Yet it’s also CBS’ most expensive production.
The network has also renewed several other series including “Magnum P.I.” for a fourth season, “S.W.A.T.” for a fifth season, “Blue Bloods” for a twelfth season and “Bull” for a sixth season.
