CBS Orders “True Lies” Series To Pilot

CBS has handed out a pilot order for a TV series based on James Cameron’s hit 1994 action-comedy “True Lies”.

The project will be a collaboration between three key people – Cameron himself, “Burn Notice” creator Matt Nix and filmmaker McG (“Terminator Salvation”, 2000 “Charlie’s Angels”) who will create it for 20th Television.

In the original film, Schwarzenegger played a superspy who keeps his true occupation a secret from his wife (Jamie Lee Curtis) and daughter (Eliza Dushku). The film scored good reviews and pulled in over $378 million worldwide at the box-office.

In 2017, the FOX network gave the project a put pilot commitment with Marc Guggenheim attached to serve as showrunner while Cameron, McG, Jon Landau, Rae Sanchini, and Mary Viola were all involved.

That version never came together, only reaching the script stage, but all bar Guggenheim remains involved. The new version was written by Nix, will be directed by McG and shifts the perspective of the story to put the focus on the Curtis character.

In the series, an unfulfilled suburban housewife is shocked to discover that her bland and unremarkable computer consultant husband is a skilled international spy.

She soon finds herself propelled into a life of danger and adventure when she is recruited to work alongside him to save the world as they try to revitalize their passionless marriage.
