Cavill Held Onto Superman “Very Gently”

Warner Bros. Pictures

Henry Cavill is still talking up his return as Superman whilst out doing promotional interviews for the “Enola Holmes” sequel which just launched on Netflix.

Cavill first appeared in the role nearly a decade ago in “Man of Steel” before returning to it two more times – all under director Zack Snyder. Now, with Warner Bros. Discovery charting a new course for DC moving forward, the actor is aiming to return as a more positive, inspiring incarnation of the character.

This week, Cavill continued to tease his return to the role will be offering an “enormously joyful” story and his desire to retain the role was something he held onto even – when it seemed Warners had no interest in his return. Speaking with Deadline, he says:

“It was something which I had to very gently hold onto in my heart, because I didn’t know whether I would have the opportunity to play it again … [But] the opportunity was very important to get again, and I’m very, very lucky and feel very privileged to have that opportunity now.

There’s something so true and honest and hopeful, which is the best of all of us, and I love that. I think it’s the thing which we all truly yearn for, deep, deep down, which is goodness, and everyone else being good, and good to one another, and helping one another. Even at our most cynical, I think that deep down, that’s what we want.”

At present, it’s not clear when Cavill will actually be able to film his return to the part, beyond his already released “Black Adam” cameo. At last report, a writer is being sought to pen the script for the project which Charles Roven will produce.
