Cate Blanchett Open To Fincher’s “Squid Game”

Netflix

Netflix ended Korean series sensation “Squid Game” almost two months ago now, with much of the discussion post-release centering on the surprise cameo at the end.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “SQUID GAME” SEASON 3

That cameo, in what is essentially a standalone sequence in the final moments of the series, sees Australian actress Cate Blanchett serving as a ‘front man’ for the game in Los Angeles.

Her scene sees her instructing a homeless person to play the game of Ddakji – much like Gong Yoo’s recruiter from the main series. At the time of release, it was made clear she was not officially cast in any future “Squid Game” project.

We also know filmmaker David Fincher is working on a U.S. continuation of the franchise – the series to be set in the same world as the Korean one. Dennis Kelly (“Utopia”) was writing it.

Speaking with Variety about her role in the series, she says she doesn’t know if she’s coming back but is very open to the idea:

“I am wildly open to anything. And in a world that is so beautifully, magically created like that, for sure. They’re amazing world-builders, and that series has been eaten alive. I don’t think there’s a corner of the globe that it hasn’t touched in some way…I mean, I’d love to work with David again. It’s been ages. But no, I don’t know anything more than you do. I’m not being coy. I really don’t.”

Blancett recently filmed Jim Jarmusch‘s family drama “Father Mother Sister Brother” and is currently shooting the Zeller Brothers‘ sci-fi comedy “Alpha Gang”. Fincher is currently busy shooting “The Adventures of Cliff Booth”
