Pop star Taylor Swift has joined the cast of David O. Russell’s untitled new film at New Regency and 20th Century Studios. The project has already completed production in Los Angeles, and plot details remain unknown.
Swift joins a cast that includes Margot Robbie, Christian Bale, John David Washington, Rami Malek, Zoe Saldana, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Rock, Mike Myers, Robert De Niro, Michael Shannon and Timothy Olyphant. [Source: Variety]
The Staircase
“Game of Thrones” alum Sophie Turner is returning to HBO for the limited series “The Staircase,” based on the true story of novelist Michael Peterson and the suspicious death of his wife.
Turner will play Margaret Ratliff, one of Peterson’s adopted daughters. She joins a cast that includes Colin Firth, Toni Collette, Juliette Binoche, Rosemarie DeWitt and Parker Posey. Antonio Campos and Maggie Cohn serve as showrunners. [Source: THR]
In the Heights
Melissa Barrera (“In the Heights,” “Vida”) will topline the six-episode drama series “Breathe” for Netflix. “Blindspot” duo Martin Gero and Brendan Gall are behind the project.
The story begins when a small plane crashes in the middle of the Canadian wilderness. The sole survivor, a razor-sharp Manhattan attorney (Barrera), must battle for survival. [Source: THR]
Senior Year
Alicia Silverstone has joined the cast of Alex Hardcastle’s comedy “Senior Year” for Paramount Players. Rebel Wilson, Justin Hartley, Angourie Rice, Sam Richardson, Zoe Chao, Mary Holland and Chris Parnell are also on board.
Brandon Scott Jones is writing the script based on a spec from Andrew Knauer and Arthur Pielli. The story follows a cheerleader who wakes up after a 20-year coma and returns to high school to try to regain her status and claim the prom queen crown that eluded her. [Source: Deadline]
