Sam Worthington is set to star in “The Machinist,” “The Call” and “Beirut” director Brad Anderson’s next film “Fracture” for Netflix. Shooting begins later this year ahead of a 2019 release.

The currently untitled project follows a man (Worthington) who must find his courage and hold onto his sanity when his wife and daughter disappear in the middle of an ER visit. Alan B. McElroy writing the script, and Paul Schiff, Neal Edelstein, and Mike Macari are producing.

Human Capital
Marisa Tomei will join Liev Schreiber and Alex Wolff in the film adaptation of Stephen Amidon’s 2005 novel “Human Capital”. Marc Meyers (“My Friend Dahmer”) is directing from Oren Moverman’s script with filming beginning today in New York.

The film follows the lives of two families – one middle-class and one privileged – as their lives intertwine across the social divide when two of their children suddenly begin a relationship that leads to a tragic accident.

Swamp Thing
Kevin Durand (“Lost,” “The Strain,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) has joined the cast of the DC Universe series “Swamp Thing” in the role of Jason Woodrue, the brilliant but abrasive scientist who becomes the villain Floronic Man. Crystal Reed, Derek Mears, Andy Bean and Jennifer Beals co-star in the series which has no release date at this time.

Godzilla vs. Kong
Legendary has closed a deal for Japanese actor Shun Oguri (“Crows Zero”) to make his Hollywood debut in “Godzilla vs. Kong”. Oguri joins Alexander Skarsgard, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Eiza Gonzalez, Julian Dennison and Demian Bichir in the Adam Wingard-directed film opening May 22nd 2020.

Queen and Slim
Rising star Jodie Turner-Smith (“Nightflyers,” “The Last Ship”) will join Daniel Kaluuya in “Queen & Slim” for Universal Pictures and Makeready. The story follows a couple after they’re stopped by the police and how it affects their lives. Melina Matsoukas (“Insecure”) helms from a script by Lena Waithe with the film aiming for a Thanksgiving 2019 release.

Untitled Drake Doremus Feature
Sherry Cola (“Good Trouble,” “Claws”) is joining the cast of Drake Doremus’ untitled feature drama currently shooting in LA for CJ Entertainment. Jamie Dornan, Sebastian Stan, Matthew Gray Gubler, Lindsay Sloane and Shamier Anderson co-star.

The movie is set in present day Los Angeles and follows Daphne (Shailene Woodley), a thirty-something woman navigating love and heartbreak over the course of one year. During that time, she will unlock the secrets to her life in a sudden turn of events and in the most surprising of places.

Brandon Wilson (“Ray Donovan”) has joined Gavin O’Connor’s sport drama “Torrance” at Warner Bros. Pictures with filming now underway. Ben Affleck plays a former basketball all-star who has lost his wife and family in a struggle with addiction.

Affleck’s character attempts to regain his soul and salvation by becoming the coach of a losing high school basketball team at his alma mater before his drinking gets the best of him. Wilson will play Brandon, a point guard on the team and who becomes a protege of Affleck’s character.

Nasim Pedrad (“SNL”), Jason Mitchell (“Mudbound”) and Danielle Brooks (“Orange Is the New Black”) are in talks to star in Netflix’s romantic comedy “Desperados”. Lauren Palmigiano will direct from a script by Ellen Rapoport with filming to begin early next year in Mexico.

Pedrad will play a neurotic woman who takes her friends (including Brooks) to Mexico to thwart a hateful e-mail she accidentally sent to her new, perfect near-boyfriend. During her trip, she keeps running into a terrible recent blind date (Mitchell) who maybe isn’t so terrible after all.

Knives Out
Riki Lindhome (“Another Period”), Edi Patteron (“Troupe Zero”) and Raul Castillo (“Seven Seconds”) are the latest to join Rian Johnson’s whodunnit film “Knives Out” which also stars Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Lakeith Stanfield, Jamie Lee Curtis, Christopher Plummer, Ana de Armas, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, Don Johnson and Jaeden Lieberher. Filming is underway in Boston.

The project is dubbed a modern day murder mystery in the classic whodunit style, with Craig’s detective character is called Benoit Blanc. Johnson has scripted and will direct.

Australian dancer Steven McRae, principal dancer of The Royal Ballet, has joined the cast of Universal Pictures and Working Title’s “Cats” movie – taking on the role of Skimbleshanks in this adaptation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber stage musical opening December next year.

Skimbleshanks is an older ginger tabby cat who considers himself very important within the tribe. His main role is to work on the mail trains traveling at nighttime, which he considers a vital contribution to the Jellicles. Tom Hooper helms the film which also includes Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Ian McKellan, Idris Elba, Judi Dench, Laurie Davidson, Francesca Hayward and Mette Towley.

Courtney B. Vance, Niecy Nash and Mamoudou Athie are all attached as the leads in Netflix’s new film “Uncorked,” a father-son story loosely based on the family history of “Insecure” showrunner Prentice Penny.

Penny pens and directs the film about a young man, fueled by his love of wine, who strives to become a master sommelier while dealing with his father’s expectations that he’ll take over the family barbecue business. Filming begins early November in Memphis and Paris.
