Casting News: Gustin, Lucas, Penn, Martell

Rescued by Ruby
“The Flash” star Grant Gustin will lead the real-life drama “Rescued by Ruby” for Netflix. Karen Janszen (“A Walk to Remember”) will pen the script while Katt Shea directs.

Gustin will play a state trooper that dreams of joining the K-9 search and rescue team, but no one will give him the chance. Shelter dog Ruby dreams of having a home but is running out of hope. Fate brings them together. [Source: THR]

Untitled Lucas Bros. Project
Judd Apatow and brothers Kenny and Keith Lucas are teaming on a new and currently untitled semi-autobiographical comedy for Universal Pictures. Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel will co-write the story which will center on the siblings’ lives as identical twins growing up in New Jersey. [Source: Variety]

Black Flies
Sean Penn and Tye Sheridan are set to star in Jean-Stephane Sauvaire’s paramedic thriller “Black Flies” for Open Road Films. Filming begins in New York City late this year and is scripted by Ryan King from Shannon Burke’s novel.

Sheridan stars a young idealistic man who is prepping for medical school and gets a street-side view of things when he drives an ambulance alongside a grizzled veteran (Penn) considered to be one of the city’s best emergency medics. [Source: Deadline]

Metal Lords
Jaeden Martell (“IT,” “Knives Out”), Isis Hainsworth (“Emma,” “Misbehaviour”) and newcomer Adrian Greensmith will star in “Metal Lords,” the first feature that former “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have setup at Netflix.

Weiss wrote the film’s script and produces it alongside Benioff and Greg Shapiro. Peter Sollett (“Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist”) directs the film about two kids who want to start a heavy metal band in a high school where exactly two kids care about heavy metal. [Source: Variety]
