Two and Only
Oscar-winner Ariana DeBose (“West Side Story”) will executive produce Latina and LGBTQ+ writer Jen Rivas-DeLoose’s original script “Two and Only” for Screen Gems.
The project will serve as a star vehicle for DeBose and is dubbed “My Best Friend’s Wedding from a bisexual Latina POV”. Randall Einhorn and Jeremy Stern produce. [Source: The Wrap]
Royal Hotel
Jessica Henwick and Hugo Weaving will join Julia Garner in Kitty Greens upcoming ‘based on a true story’ thriller feature “The Royal Hotel.” Green co-wrote the script with Oscar Redding (“Van Diemen’s Land”), whilst Weaving plays the owner of a pub central to the story.
Garner and Henwick star as best friends backpacking in Australia who take a live-in job in a remote mining town’s pub. When their behavior crosses a line, the pair find themselves trapped in an unnerving situation that grows rapidly out of their control. [Source: Variety]
Damsel
Robin Wright, Ray Winstone, Nick Robinson, Brooke Carter and Shohreh Aghdashloo will join Millie Bobby Brown and Angela Bassett in the Netflix fantasy film “Damsel” penned by Dan Mazeau (“Wrath of the Titans”).
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo helms the film about a dutiful damsel who agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to a fire-breathing dragon in order to repay an ancient debt. [Source: Deadline]
The Colony
Sarita Choudhury (“And Just Like That”) is set to star and executive produce the one-hour drama “The Colony” based on the 2018 film “Stray Dolls” by Sonejuhi Sinha. Sinha, Charlotte Rabate and Nicholas Weinstock will also executive produce.
The darkly comedic twisted family drama explores the pressures and tropes facing an immigrant family and what happens when they are dragged into a world of crime. [Source: Deadline]
