Two Butterflies
Viola Davis is in talks to star in the Amazon drama feature “Two Butterflies” based on an original idea and script by Evan Dodson. Yance Ford (“Strong Island”) helms the film which Davis and Julius Tennon will produce.

The story follows two estranged sisters who are torn apart by tragedy and forced to reunite when one must be transported to an Alzheimer’s facility. [Source: Deadline]

Harold and the Purple Crayon
Lil Rel Howery (“Free Guy,” “Vacation Friends”) is set to join Zachary Levi in Carlos Saldanha’s live-action adaptation of “Harold and the Purple Crayon” at Sony Pictures. John Davis is producing.

David Guion & Michael Handelman wrote the screenplay, which is based on Crockett Johnson’s 1955 children’s book about a four-year-old who, with the power of his crayon, created worlds around him. [Source: Deadline]

The Beanie Bubble
Zach Galifianakis, Elizabeth Banks, Sarah Snook and Geraldine Viswanathan are set to star in “The Beanie Bubble” at Apple Studios and Imagine Entertainment.

The project deals with the ‘Beanie Babies’ craze in the mid-late 1990s – plush animal toys which ended up being collected as financial investments due to their prospective resale values. SNL writer Kristin Gore adapted the work from Zac Bissonette’s book and co-directs the film with husband and Ok Go frontman Damian Kulash. [Source: THR]

Redd Zone
Jada Pinkett Smith has signed on to star in the Netflix drama “Redd Zone” which hails from screenwriter Kristin Layne Tucker (“A Black Lady Sketch Show”) and Oscar-winning director Matthew A. Cherry (“Hair Love”).

Smith plays Tia Magee, a single mother who steps forward to help her sons and their high school football teammates after the murder of their best friend Dominic Redd. Soon, seventeen are living under her roof and eventually go to college. [Source: Deadline]

The Patient
Domhnall Gleeson is set to join Steve Carell in FX’s half-hour ten-episode limited series “The Patient” which hails from “The Americans” duo of Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields. Linda Emond, Laura Niemi and Andrew Leeds are also onboard.

Carell plays a psychotherapist who finds himself held prisoner by a serial killer (Gleeson) with an unusual request: curb his homicidal urges. Chris Long, Kevin Bray and Gwyneth Horder-Payton will direct episodes. [Source: THR]
