The second season of Amazon Prime Video’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” series is in production in the UK. However, the show’s leading lady Morfydd Clark, who plays Galadriel, has been able to tease some of what to expect.
The mega-budget show’s first season ended with the forging of the three elven rings by Celebrimbor, with each having names – Vilya, Nenya, and Narya. In ‘Rings’ lore, Galadriel always wore Nenya.
Meanwhile, Gil-Galad (Benjamin Walker) was given the other two, and he passed Vilya to Elrond (Robert Aramayo) and Nanya to Cirdan, the latter passing that on to Gandalf. The show will introduce the Cirdan character, the oldest living Elf on Middle Earth, in the second season.
Appearing at an FYC event in Hollywood last night alongside some cast mates as all are on break from shooting, Clark says of her character this season:
“She’s about to have a life-changing thing happen to her. She’s about to become acquainted with Nenya, her ring. It’s really exciting to see how the magic creeps in.
When we finished Season 1, the rings were being made, and we knew it was going to be a huge change for Middle Earth. [Galadriel] is going to be part of that change because she has her own ring. She’s trying to see the light through the darkness.”
Peter Mullan, who portrays Dwarf King Durin III in the series, teases that additional rings will also be forged when the show returns: “There are more rings; the show is called The Rings of Power. Maybe I’ll be getting a new necklace, who knows?”
Though tight-lipped about the King’s accessories, he confirmed his character’s relationship with his son, Prince Durin (Owain Arthur), “gets very problematic.”
Ismael Cruz Cordova, who plays Elf warrior Arondir, says the new season is set to go noticeably darker:
“We were in a time of relative peace in Season 1 and all that gets shaken up. Now we’re dealing with the aftermath of this big evil that is now concrete. We got the guy now; Sauron is here. In Season 2, we’re grappling with that. These characters are grappling with their elvish-ness or their dwarf-ness, with their humanity and their loves. What you’re going to see is the depth of our reality and how it is expressed. That’s where it all takes off.”
Owain Arthur, who plays Prince Durin, confirms his character’s bromance with Elrond will get more time in the new season, which is expected to air sometime next year.
