Cast Firms Up For Mendes’ Beatles Films

FX, Searchlight, Netflix, Amazon MGM Studios

Filmmaker Sam Mendes ambitious four-film The Beatles project appears to have settled on its core cast.

Fitting many of the previous rumors, it appears that Mendes has settled on Harris Dickinson (“Babygirl”) as John Lennon, Paul Mescal (“Gladiator II”) as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn (“Gladiator II”) as George Harrison and Barry Keoghan (“Saltburn”) as Ringo Starr.

Dickinson was asked outright a few hours ago if he’s involved by KikVRadio to which he responded “we’ll see”. Director Ridley Scott indicated this week Mescal was a lock for the film, Ringo Starr himself let slip weeks ago Barry Keoghan had been cast as him in a recent interview, and today Deadline reports Quinn is likely set for Harrison.

Dickinson, Mescal and Keoghan were all rumored earlier this year, Quinn is more recently rumored – previously it was suggested Charlie Rowe would take on the Harrison role.

The plan is for the four films to intersect and “tell the astonishing story of the greatest band in history” with everything leading up to their 1970 breakup.

McCartney, Starr, and the families of the late John Lennon and George Harrison have all reportedly granted full life story and music rights for the scripted films – the first time the Beatles have granted their full support for a scripted film.

Sony Pictures Entertainment will both finance and distribute all four films with plans to release all four theatrically in 2027 with an “innovative and groundbreaking” strategy.
