Apple TV+ has handed out an eight-episode series order for the one-hour London-based character-driven thriller “Criminal Record”.
Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo have scored the lead roles. The actors previously worked together back in 2009 on the “Torchwood: Children of Earth” mini-series before going on to “Doctor Who” and “The Good Fight” respectively.
The pair will play detectives who, after an anonymous phone call, are drawn into a confrontation over an old murder case. DS June Lenker (Jumbo) is in the early stages of her career while DCI Daniel Hegarty (Capaldi) is a well-connected man determined to protect his legacy.
Themes of race, institutional failure and an increasingly polarized Britain come into play. Currently in production, the project hails from BAFTA Award nominee Paul Rutman (“Vera,” “Indian Summers”) with him, Elaine Collins and both actors serving as executive producers.
BAFTA Award winner Jim Loach (“Oranges and Sunshine”) is directing the series.
