Candyman Targets August Filming Start

MGM and Universal’s upcoming “Candyman” sequel from producer Jordan Peele is reportedly scheduled to begin filming in Chicago in mid-August and run through to the early Fall.

Chicago Tribune (via Bloody Disgusting) reported the news, saying the project will be shot entirely within the city and the story returns to the neighborhood where the legend began – the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“Aquaman”) plays an artist who becomes obsessed with the legend of the serial killer in this ‘spiritual sequel’ to the 1992 horror classic, and original star Tony Todd is potentially going to appear in the project which is being directed by rising filmmaker Nia DaCosta (“Little Woods”) from a screenplay by Peele and Win Rosenfeld.

Teyonah Parris (“If Beale Street Could Talk”) also stars in the film which Universal will release theatrically in the U.S. on June 12th 2020.
