Cameron Slams OceanGate Film Rumors

Oscar-winning “Avatar” filmmaker James Cameron has slammed rumors that he is in talks to direct a feature about the OceanGate submarine disaster.

The Titan submersible, owned by OceanGate, set out on a deep sea voyage to explore the wreckage of the Titanic last month.

After being missing for several days and a multinational search-and-rescue operation getting underway, the wreckage was found. The U.S. Coast Guard announced that the submersible suffered a ‘catastrophic implosion’ with all five passengers presumed dead.

Cameron himself has visited the wreckage of the Titanic more than 30 times and is considered one of the world’s foremost experts on submersible deep-sea diving.

During the news coverage of the incident, he appeared on ABC News and lamented the tragedy along with criticising OceanGate.

In a post on Twitter this morning, James Cameron made it clear any talk of him directing a film about the incident is false: “I don’t respond to offensive rumors in the media usually, but I need to now. I’m NOT in talks about an OceanGate film, nor will I ever.”

Cameron remains busy with a third “Avatar” on the way in December 2025, two more follow-ups slated to follow after and is tipped to produce at least one more “Alita: Battle Angel” film.
