A while back came the news that “Hannibal” showrunner and “Pushing Daisies” creator Bryan Fuller was at work on a new film adaptation of Stephen King’s iconic haunted car novel “Christine”.

Recently, Fuller appeared on The Kingcast podcast (via Slashfilm) where they asked how his version was going. He revealed his script is currently in Stephen King’s hands waiting for feedback.

He revealed his take is more of a pure adaptation of the novel than the previous John Carpenter-directed film adaptation which took some liberties. He says: “This is much more beholden to the concept of ‘The Overlook on wheels,’ or the vampiric relationship between the car and Arnie.”

Carpenter’s film left out various elements from the book which Fuller sees this as an opportunity to bring them back in and include elements ranging from the car’s previous owner Roland LeBay, to a more in-depth take on the toxic relationship between the nerdy Arnie and the haunted car that sours everything around him.

The original novel is also quite lewd which Fuller intends to integrate. Fuller also intends to keep the late 1970s setting, and will expand on the Leigh character to give her more dimension.

Vincenzo Natali is also producing the film which has been set up at Sony Pictures and Blumhouse.
