Amanda Seyfried (“Mamma Mia”), Thomasin McKenzie (“Old”), Lewis Pullman (“Salem’s Lot”), Christopher Abbott (“Wolf Man”), Tim Blake Nelson (“Watchmen”) and Stacy Martin (“The Night House”) are all starring in “Ann Lee” which has reportedly just wrapped filming.
The project is a re-teaming of several key people from this year’s major awards contender “The Brutalist”. That film had Brady Corbet directing and co-writing with his partner Mona Fastvold (“The World to Come”), here its reversed with Fastvold directing and she and Corbet co-writing.
Both Corbet and Fastvold also produce. Golden Globe-nominated composer Daniel Blumberg will write and produce the original music for “Ann Lee” after working with Corbet and Fastvold on “The Brutalist” and “The World to Come”.
The film is an ‘epic fable’ musical set in 18th century England and is “inspired” by real events. It deals with religious leader Ann Lee, who founded the Shaker Movement. She was dubbed the ‘female Christ’ by her followers who worshipped her through exuberant song and dance.
Lee went on to build one of the largest utopian societies in American history. Seyfried will take on the lead role in the project. The project was quietly made with word of the film only coming now that it has finished its shoot.
Andrew Morrison, Joshua Horsfield, Viktoria Petranyi, Mark Lampert, Gregory Jankilevitsch, Klaudia Smieja-Rostworowska, and Lillian LaSalle produce with the film aiming to release next year once distribution is set.
