Daniel Brühl (“The Alienist,” “All Quiet on the Western Front”, “Captain America: Civil War”) is set to star as late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld in the original series “Kaiser Karl” for the Disney+ service.

Lagerfeld went on to become the head designer and creative director of Chanel, Fendi and then later his own label. The series will also explore the rivalry between him and YSL partner Pierre Berge (Alex Lutz), as well as his romance with Jacques de Bascher (Theodore Pellerin).

Along with ego battles, the series will also portray the epic partying and decadence, tragic love affairs and friendships that marked Lagerfeld’s life. Also starring are Agnès Jaoui as Chloe founder Gaby Aghion, Sunnyi Melles as Marlene Dietrich, Jeanne Damas as Paloma Picasso, Claire Laffut as Loulou de la Falaise and Paul Spera as Andy Warhol.

Jerome Salle (“Kompromat,” “The Odyssey,” “Zulu”) will direct episodes 1, 2 & 6 with up-and-coming director Audrey Estrougo (“Authentik”) handling episodes 3-5. Gaumont (“Lupin”) is producing the show which is currently shooting in France, Monaco and Italy.

Isabelle Degeorges and Arnaud de Crémiers executive produce with Isaure Pisani-Ferry, Jennifer Have and Raphaelle Bacque adapting for television. Pisani-Ferry serves as head writer for the series with Dominique Baumard, Jennifer Have, and Nathalie Hertzberg also writing.
