Bruce Beresford Helms Buddy Holly Biopic

“Driving Miss Daisy” and “Breaker Morant” director Bruce Beresford is set to helm the Buddy Holly biopic “Clear Lake”.

The story will begin with Holly’s teen years then portray his 1958 Biggest Show of Stars tour with Clarence Collins as they broke racial barriers by performing together across the U.S. in 1958 in the first truly integrated music tour.

Along with following Holly’s musical ties, it will also feature his meeting with his future bride and the plane crash that ended his life in 1959. Patrick Shanahan penned the screenplay.

Holly’s widow, Maria Elena Holly, also helped developed Clear Lake as an associate producer. Stuart Benjamin (“Ray”) will produce. Budgeted at $15-20 million, casting is now underway and shooting aims to begin this Fall.
