“Now You See Me: Now You Don’t,” the third entry in the magician heist franchise, has topped the box-office this weekend.
The film is coming in ahead of expectations, with a weekend opening of around $21-24 million expected following an $8.4 million haul on Friday. That’s above the $19 million projections earlier this week.
Despite middling critical reviews and a decent B+ CinemaScore, the film has seemingly done well with audiences, in particular women who are making up 54% of ticket sales.
The opposite is true of Edgar Wright’s new take on “The Running Man”. The film landed $6.4 million on Friday and is now headed for a $16-19 million start – considerably down from $24-25 million projections at the start of the week. The film landed mixed reviews and a B+ CinemaScore.
It is skewing heavily male at 64%, but is competing with the still in cinemas “Predator: Badlands,” which has scored a much more positive response with critics. That film is expected to take third place, followed by “Regretting You” in fourth.
Osgood Perkins’ “Keeper” was the other wide opener this week and has fizzled, looking to come in around fifth with $2.6 million. It landed a dismal D+ CinemaScore.
