With international and Sunday domestic numbers coming in, Marvel will be understandably concerned this morning.
“The Fantastic Four: First Steps” estimates for its second weekend are now at $40 million domestically, an as expected steep drop of 66% with its domestic total at $198.4 million after ten days.
It’s one of the worst drops of the MCU, the worst being the 68% fall of “Captain America: Brave New World” earlier this year.
International was a bit more forgiving, the title falling 54% overseas in its second weekend for a further $39.8 million. That brings the overseas total to $170.3 million and the worldwide total to $368.7 million.
The hard fact is that the recent “Superman” is having decidedly more staying power. At the same point in time (10 days), James Gunn’s film had a second weekend of $57 million (a 54% drop) domestically and $45.2 million overseas, bringing it to a domestic total of $235 million, overseas total of $171.8 million and worldwide total of $406.7 million.
“Superman” is still in play now though, the title coming in fourth this weekend in its fourth weekend frame with a further $13.8 million domestic and $11.2 million internationally added. That brings it gross up to $316.2 million domestically and $235 million overseas for a total of $551.2 million worldwide so far.
The Brad Pitt-led “F1,” which opened weeks ago, is still making money, especially in Asian markets like Korea. Worldwide it has made $545.6 million, which takes it past “World War Z” to become Brad Pitt’s highest-grossing movie ever worldwide.
Meanwhile, the reboot of “The Naked Gun” franchise came in third with $17 million domestically and $11.5 million overseas, which makes it the second-highest opening for a “Naked Gun” film behind only the second one.
“The Bad Guys 2” debuted in second place to a $22.2 million domestic debut and $16.3 million overseas – though it has yet to open in multiple markets internationally.
“Jurassic World Rebirth” rounded out the top five with $8.7 million domestic and $16.2 million international – bringing it to a $766 million worldwide haul to date.
