Bousman Plans LaLaurie Mansion Film

“Spiral” director Darren Lynn Bousman, “The Conjuring” creators Chad and Carey Hayes, and Faster Horse Pictures are teaming for a new horror franchise about the LaLaurie Mansion.

Bousman will direct the present day-set first film in a proposed series of movies about the infamous New Orleans property. Casting is already underway and studio and streamer interest is high on the project.

The house was made infamous by its resident Madame Lalaurie, a New Orleans socialite and serial killer who tortured and murdered numerous slaves there in the early 1800s.

Her crimes were exposed following a house fire in 1834. She fled the city and was never arrested. On-screen, Kathy Bates portrayed LaLaurie in “American Horror Story: Coven”.

The Hayes Brothers have written the screenplay in the house and the production will shoot portions of the film on-site as well. Public access to the property has not been possible since 1932.

The stories in the franchise will unfold in multiple instalments covering the history of the house from recent events back to the origins of the house and its sinister owner.
