Universal Pictures will debut the upcoming animated sequel “The Boss Baby: Family Business” simultaneously both in theaters and on the premium tier (at no extra charge) of its Peacock streaming service.
In addition, the film has been moved up to July 2nd, this marks a big change from the original plan which was a cinema release on September 17th followed by a PVOD release sometime in October.
Universal Filmed Entertainment Group and Peacock announced the news in a joint statement, making this the first Universal title to announce a simultaneous streaming and theatrical debut. Theater owners can decide whether or not to carry the film.
In addition, the sequel will begin its international theatrical rollout in select markets timed to the North American release on July 2nd. The voice cast includes Alec Baldwin, James Marsden, Eva Longoria, Amy Sedaris, Ariana Greenblatt, Jeff Goldblum, Lisa Kudrow and Jimmy Kimmel.
More than 42 million customers have signed up for NBCUniversal’s Peacock service.
