“BoJack Horseman” supervising director Mike Hollingsworth has created “Golden Girls 3033,” a five-minute pilot for a potential sci-fi animated series spin on the iconic NBC sitcom “The Golden Girls”.
The project works on the idea that the four retired women – Rose (Betty White), Blanche (Rue McClanahan), Dorothy (Bea Arthur), and Sophie (Estelle Getty) – found the fountain of youth on the grounds of their senior living facility in Miami and are now immortal and living in the year 3033.
Hollingsworth opted not to cast new voice actors, instead blending original audio from the Susan Harris-created series with brand new animation packed with visual gags and a tone that blends “Futurama” and “The Jetsons”. The pilot has been made available on YouTube and can be seen below.
A full interview about the project is up at Indiewire where it says the aim is for future episodes to ideally be half-hour entries, crafted by a full team of professional writers and animators.
