Have you seen those “The Book of Boba Fett” trailers and thought it lacked something? Turns out there’s some deliberate subterfuge at work.
Speaking with THR two weeks ahead of the new series premiere, director/producer Robert Rodriguez has briefly discussed what we can expect and says the marketing campaign has deliberately only been using shots from only the first episode.
In fact, they’ve only been using footage from the first half of the first episode: “We can’t use the second half of the first episode because it gives so much away…. it’ll be evident when you see the show.”
Fellow executive producer David Filoni meanwhile offers a little more illumination and suggests the new show will offer more Skywalker saga supporting characters and elements than “The Mandalorian” has done so far:
“Boba gives us a direct connection to the Star Wars saga since he was involved in that story. This creates a nice crossover point for both classic characters and new characters. Much of The Mandalorian was new or had not been seen onscreen. Through Boba Fett, we can weave some of those characters and tales together using a character we know but don’t know a lot about.”
Rodriguez then teases plenty of fan service is in store:
“[Boba] invites a whole world from the underworld in with him. Things turn up you don’t expect, you see things we couldn’t believe we got to do. Every episode has big surprises.”
The series sees bounty hunter Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and his assassin partner Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) have taken over Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tatooine, a move that sends them on a journey into the previously unseen Star Wars underworld of crime families.
“The Book of Boba Fett” premieres on December 29th on the Disney+ service.
